BRICS and Bible Prophecy: Is a Global Shift Setting the Stage for Ezekiel 38?

The short answer: BRICS is not the Gog and Magog coalition, at least not yet. But Pastor Chris and Josh show that it follows the exact pattern Scripture describes for the last days: nations with nothing in common uniting around strategic and economic interests, a northern power at the center, Persia (Iran) at the table, African nations named in Ezekiel taking part, and growing hostility toward Israel. Prophecy is not fulfilled all at once; it builds toward its climax. BRICS is not the last chapter of that story. It is the page turning.

A global shift already in motion

In this episode of The Shift Connection, Pastor Chris opens with a warning: there are moments when prophecy stops being a chapter in your Bible and becomes the headline of your lifetime. Nations are realigning, and alliances are forming that would have been unthinkable a few decades ago.

BRICS began with Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and it has since expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and others. Together these nations represent more than a third of the world's population and a large share of the global economy. Josh notes that for years BRICS was treated as an economic footnote, but it has grown into a political and diplomatic force, united not by culture or religion but by one goal: breaking Western dominance and reshaping the global order.

Many kings, not one superpower

Pastor Chris points out that Scripture never describes a single-superpower world at the end. It describes multiple kings and coalitions that eventually collide in the Middle East. Revelation 17:12 says, "The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour."

Daniel 2 describes the final kingdom as iron mixed with clay: "Just as you saw the iron mixed with soft clay, so they will mix with one another in marriage, but they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay" (Daniel 2:43). Different powers held together only by fragile agreements. Josh sums it up: BRICS does not match prophecy because it is evil; it matches prophecy because it is multipolar, a world dividing into blocs as nations position themselves for the final tension before Messiah's return.

Breaking the dollar

One of BRICS's central aims is moving the world away from the U.S. dollar, a process called de-dollarization. Its members are building alternatives to SWIFT, to the World Bank and to Western payment systems. Pastor Chris notes that the dollar has not been backed by gold for decades and loses value every year, and that many nations around the world have taken notice. Josh observes that if the dollar breaks, the backbone of the world economy breaks with it, and that throughout history, whenever nations reorganize around money, conflict is not far behind.

Prophetically, Pastor Chris says, this points to something deeper. Revelation 13:16–17 describes a coming system in which no one can buy or sell without the mark of the beast. He is clear that BRICS is not that system. But it is creating the fracture in the old financial order that a new global system will need in order to rise. And Revelation 18 describes the collapse of Babylon's economy, when the merchants mourn and the kings of the earth weep as they watch a global system fall.

Persia at the table

This is where BRICS becomes, as Pastor Chris puts it, prophetically electric. Iran is now a full BRICS member, and Persia is named directly in Ezekiel 38. Josh adds that the BRICS atmosphere is increasingly hostile to Israel: Russia has military cooperation with Iran, China openly criticizes Israeli policy, South Africa took Israel to the International Court of Justice, and Egypt and Ethiopia are in the mix.

Ezekiel 38:2–6 names the coalition: Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal, with Persia, Cush and Put, Gomer, and Beth-togarmah from the far north. Scholars debate exact locations, but Pastor Chris notes that Persia is Iran, Cush is northeastern Africa and Put is North Africa. Historic regions are reconnecting through modern alliances, not in exact form but in prophetic pattern.

And Scripture never says these nations love each other. They unite out of shared interest, just as BRICS does. India does not love China, and China does not love Russia, but they share the goal of breaking Western influence. Ezekiel 38 says that when the coalition rises, its eyes will turn toward Israel, for strategic reasons rather than religious ones.

All nations gathered against Jerusalem

The pattern runs throughout the prophets. Zechariah 12:3 describes the day when all the nations of the earth gather against Jerusalem. Joel 3:2 says God will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat over His people Israel and His land. Revelation 16 shows the kings of the whole world gathered for battle at Armageddon.

Pastor Chris also reminds listeners that there are two Gog and Magog wars in Scripture and they should not be confused: the one in Ezekiel 38–39, and the one after the thousand-year reign in Revelation 20:7–9, when Satan is released and gathers the nations one last time.

Six prophetic indicators

Pastor Chris and Josh close by comparing BRICS to biblical prophecy point by point, not sensationally, he says, but with precision and sobriety:

  • A coalition united by strategic interest: Ezekiel's coalition is geopolitical, not ideological, and BRICS is made up of nations with competing cultures and religions united against Western dominance.

  • Persia: Iran is named in Ezekiel 38:5 and now sits inside BRICS.

  • A northern power at the center: Gog is the ruler from the far north, and Russia, due north of Israel, is a core BRICS pillar alongside China.

  • African and Asian participation: Ezekiel lists nations from Africa and Asia, and BRICS includes Egypt, Ethiopia and South Africa, with more nations lining up.

  • Rising hostility toward Israel: BRICS has condemned Israel's military actions and aligned with nations opposed to it.

  • Economic realignment before military conflict: Ezekiel 38:12–13 describes the invaders coming to take plunder and spoil, economic motives, and BRICS is restructuring the world economy now.

BRICS is not the coalition, but BRICS is absolutely a prophetic stage-setting for the kind of alliances Scripture warns about.

Wake up, not panic

Pastor Chris says the only reason he watches the news is to see which prophecy was fulfilled that day. For believers, these events are not a reason for fear. For those living in compromise, they will be frightening, so now is the time to become bold.

He speaks directly to anyone who doubts the season: ask any born-again believer whether we are in the end times, and you will hear yes. These are the days Ezekiel saw, Daniel warned of and Yeshua described. The alliances, the shaking of the financial systems and the rising hatred against Israel are not chaos; God is purifying the earth and preparing a Bride ready for Messiah's return.

Josh says it is time for the church to stop playing church and walk in holiness. Pastor Chris adds that this is not the time to be lukewarm, distracted or spiritually asleep. Lift your eyes, read the Word and let the Holy Spirit awaken you. If you have walked away from the Lord, there could not be a better time to come back. The risen King is coming, and He is closer than we think.

Frequently asked questions

An alliance that began with Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa and expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and others. It represents more than a third of the world's population and aims to reshape the global economic order.

Pastor Chris teaches not yet. But it follows the pattern of the coalition in Ezekiel 38: nations united by strategic interest, a northern power, Persia, African nations and hostility toward Israel.

Yes. Persia, the region of modern Iran, is named in Ezekiel 38:5 among the nations that come against Israel with Gog. Iran is now a full BRICS member.

Ezekiel 38–39 describes Gog as a ruler from the far north leading a coalition against Israel. Pastor Chris notes that Russia, due north of Israel, fits that geographic category.

No. Pastor Chris is clear that BRICS is not the beast system of Revelation 13:16–17, but its break from the dollar is creating the fracture a future global system would need.

In Daniel 2:43 the final kingdom is iron mixed with clay, powers that mix but do not hold together, a picture of fragile alliances like the ones forming today.

Two: the war of Ezekiel 38–39, and the final rebellion after the thousand-year reign in Revelation 20:7–9.

No. Pastor Chris teaches that these signs are meant to wake God's people up, not frighten them. Believers are called to read the Word, walk in holiness and watch for the King's return.
