Is King Charles the Antichrist? Testing the Claim Against Scripture

May 23, 2024
5 min read

The short answer: Scripture describes the antichrist as a counterfeit messiah: a world ruler who claims the place of the true King, survives a deadly wound, and finally sits in the temple of God proclaiming himself God (Revelation 13:3; 2 Thessalonians 2:4). In this 2024 episode Pastor Chris and Josh test King Charles III against that profile, from his heraldry to his coronation to his global influence. Pastor Chris believes the king fits it closely. Scripture also tells us how the man of lawlessness will finally be revealed, so believers watch, test and stay ready rather than panic.

Start with the criteria, not the candidate

Every few years a new name is put forward as the antichrist. Pastor Chris says the right question comes first: what does Scripture actually require? Many popular ideas are cultural myths, such as the belief that he must be young and charming. The Bible gives no age. What it does give is a pattern. The antichrist is anti in both senses: against Messiah, and in place of Messiah. To deceive the nations he must imitate the true King.

Yeshua already fulfilled the Messianic promises: the seed of Abraham through whom all nations are blessed (Genesis 22:18), the ruler from Judah to whom the scepter belongs (Genesis 49:10), the righteous Branch raised up for David (Jeremiah 23:5). A counterfeit would try to claim the same credentials.

The beast's imagery

Revelation 12 portrays Satan as "a great red dragon" (12:3), and Revelation 13 describes the beast as "like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority" (13:2).

Pastor Chris points to British royal heraldry, where lions are central and the red dragon of Wales appears in the arms and badges associated with the Prince of Wales, the title Charles held for over sixty years. Heraldry is ancient and full of beasts, so imagery alone proves nothing. But Pastor Chris asks why a world leader would carry symbols that echo Revelation so closely.

A coronation with Davidic overtones

At his coronation in May 2023, Charles was anointed with oil made from olives harvested on the Mount of Olives and consecrated in Jerusalem, while the choir sang "Zadok the Priest," based on the anointing of Solomon (1 Kings 1:38–40). He was crowned over the Stone of Scone, which legend identifies with Jacob's pillow at Bethel. A movement called British Israelism has long claimed that the British throne continues the throne of David.

Those claims are not Scripture, and historians reject them. But Pastor Chris notes that a counterfeit messiah would need exactly this kind of story to be accepted by people who are still waiting for the son of David.

A counterfeit resurrection

"One of his heads looked like it had been wounded fatally. His fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled at the beast" (Revelation 13:3). The true Messiah's resurrection was foretold: "After two days He will revive us. On the third day He will raise us up" (Hosea 6:2). Pastor Chris teaches that the antichrist must imitate this, surviving what looks like a mortal wound, likely before the final three and a half years.

Global authority and a false peace

The antichrist does not need to be loved. He needs authority over "every tribe, people, language, and nation" (Revelation 13:7). Charles is head of state of fifteen countries, head of the Commonwealth, and one of the world's most prominent voices for global environmental action, as in his address to the COP28 climate summit in 2023. He has also spoken warmly of Islam for decades, beginning with his 1993 Oxford lecture "Islam and the West."

Pastor Chris sees a man positioned to offer the nations unity and peace in a time of crisis, the kind of peace Daniel describes: "In their security, he will destroy many" (Daniel 8:25). Paul warns, "When they are saying, 'Peace and safety,' then sudden destruction will come on them" (1 Thessalonians 5:3).

Look at the news with prophetic eyes, not with fear.

The number, the mark and the false prophet

"Here is wisdom. He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is six hundred sixty-six" (Revelation 13:18). Hebrew and Greek letters double as numbers, and Pastor Chris notes calculations that link the title "Prince of Wales" to 666. Such calculations have been applied to many names in history, so they should confirm Scripture, never replace it.

The mark will control buying and selling (Revelation 13:16–17). Technology is not evil in itself, but digital ID and biometric systems show how such control could work. A false prophet will perform signs, even making "fire come down out of the sky" (13:13), and direct worship to the beast.

How to respond

Whoever the antichrist proves to be, Paul gives the decisive sign: he "sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God" (2 Thessalonians 2:4). Until then, the call is discernment, not speculation. Read your Bible, pray and fast, and know the true Messiah so well that no counterfeit can fool you. Yeshua warned that false christs would show signs "so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones" (Matthew 24:24).

We do not fear. The beast's power is borrowed and temporary, and the Lord Yeshua, who rose from the dead, will destroy the lawless one "with the breath of His mouth" (2 Thessalonians 2:8). For more, see our teaching on who the restrainer is in 2 Thessalonians 2.

Frequently asked questions

Is King Charles the antichrist?

Pastor Chris believes he fits the biblical profile closely. Scripture says the man of lawlessness is finally revealed when he sits in the temple and proclaims himself God (2 Thessalonians 2:4).

Does the antichrist have to be young?

No. Scripture gives no age. It describes his authority, his deception and his counterfeit of Messiah.

What is the deadly wound in Revelation 13?

A wound that appears fatal but is healed, causing the world to marvel and follow the beast. Pastor Chris sees it as a counterfeit of Messiah's resurrection.

How do I avoid being deceived?

Know the Scriptures, walk closely with Yeshua in prayer, and test every sign and teaching against the Word (1 John 4:1).
