The Fall of Lucifer: From Anointed Cherub to the Deceiver of the Whole World
The short answer: Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14 have long been read as the story behind Satan's fall: an anointed cherub, perfect in beauty, whose heart was lifted up in pride until he said, "I will make myself like the Most High." He was cast down, a third of the heavenly host fell with him, and he has worked to deceive the world ever since. Later, in Noah's day, a separate group, the Watchers, rebelled in their own way. Many of today's "alien" encounters, Pastor Chris teaches, are these same rebels in disguise.
Before Genesis: the divine council
Pastor Chris and Josh begin before the fall of man, in the heavenly council. Psalm 82:1 says God stands in the divine assembly and judges among the elohim. Job 1:6 and 38:7 call these beings the sons of God, who shouted for joy when the earth was founded.
Among them, according to the traditional reading of Ezekiel 28, was the most glorious of all.
The anointed cherub
Ezekiel 28:12–15 is addressed to the king of Tyre, but it soon goes beyond any human king. He was the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. He was in Eden, the garden of God, covered with every precious stone. He was the anointed cherub who covers, walking among the stones of fire on God's holy mountain, blameless from the day he was created until unrighteousness was found in him.
Ezekiel 28:13 also mentions the workmanship of his "tabrets and pipes," as the King James renders it, prepared on the day he was created. Translations differ on that phrase; some render it as settings or sockets for the jewels. Pastor Chris reads it as musical instruments built into his very being, a sign of an anointed role in heaven's worship, and connects it to the shofar, the instrument Scripture uses to announce God's presence, call to repentance and sound the alarm of war.
"I will be like the Most High"
Pride was his undoing. "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty" (Ezekiel 28:17). Isaiah 14:12–14 gives his ambition in his own words:
I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God… I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.
Five times he says "I will." Pastor Chris believes this fallen cherub expected his declarations to carry the authority God had given him, and that his jealousy grew when he understood God's plan to create humanity in His own image.
War in heaven
Yeshua said, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven" (Luke 10:18). Revelation 12 describes the dragon drawing a third of the stars of heaven with his tail (12:4), and a war in which Michael and his angels fought the dragon and his angels. The dragon did not prevail; he was cast down to the earth, "the old serpent, he who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world" (12:7–9).
Notice that last phrase. He deceives the whole world. He is not locked away somewhere far off. He is active, and Paul calls him the god of this age who blinds the minds of unbelievers (2 Corinthians 4:4).
From Eden to the cross
Cast down, Satan turned his malice toward the creation God loves most. In Eden he deceived Eve (Genesis 3), and through Adam's disobedience the dominion God had entrusted to humanity was surrendered.
But in the same chapter God announced the rescue: "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel" (Genesis 3:15). Yeshua came to take back what was lost. Those who belong to Him are no longer under the rule of darkness; they have been transferred into the Kingdom of the Son (Colossians 1:13).
The Watchers: a different rebellion
Pastor Chris distinguishes Satan's fall from the later sin of the Watchers. 1 Enoch 6 says two hundred Watchers, sent to watch over humanity, descended on Mount Hermon in the days of Jared and bound themselves with an oath. Genesis 6:1–4 records the result: the sons of God took wives from the daughters of men, and the Nephilim were born.
1 Enoch 8 says they taught humanity what it was never meant to have: weapons of war under Azazel, sorcery, enchantments and astrology. Pastor Chris warns believers not to dabble in tarot or similar practices; they are not harmless. They tap into the same rebellion.
When a Nephilim died, its spirit could not return to God, who had not made it. 1 Enoch 15:8–12 says these spirits became evil spirits on the earth, and Pastor Chris teaches that this is what we call demons.
The judgment of the Watchers
God's response was decisive. 1 Enoch 10 records Azazel bound and cast into darkness until the day of judgment. Jude 6 says the angels who did not keep their proper domain are kept in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day, and 2 Peter 2:4 says God cast them into Tartarus. The flood followed (Genesis 6–7).
Angels of light
Today many people interpret encounters and sightings as visits from benevolent beings from other star systems, sometimes described as tall, beautiful beings of light, or as reptilian or gray figures. Some researchers even place Yeshua alongside Buddha as one of many "ascended masters."
Pastor Chris's answer is direct. These are not friendly visitors from another galaxy. They are the same rebels Scripture describes, able to change their appearance. "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14). If they appeared as what they really are, no one would welcome them.
Do not be afraid
None of this is meant to frighten God's people. Yeshua has already disarmed the powers (Colossians 2:15), and He rose from the dead to prove it. A thousand may fall at your side, and it will not come near you (Psalm 91:7).
If you have never given your life to Him, now is the time. God is not looking for religious performance. He is looking for an open heart.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lucifer in Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14?
Both passages address earthly kings (Tyre and Babylon), but they use language that goes beyond any human ruler. Many readers through history have seen in them the fall of Satan.
Who fell with Satan?
Revelation 12:4 describes the dragon drawing a third of the stars of heaven, and 12:7–9 says his angels were cast down with him.
Are the Watchers the same as the angels who fell with Satan?
Pastor Chris teaches they are distinct: Satan fell first, and the Watchers rebelled later in the days of Jared, as 1 Enoch 6 describes.
Are aliens fallen angels?
Pastor Chris teaches that many so-called alien encounters are deceptions by rebellious spiritual beings, noting that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14).
